Talisman

The flames from the torches which will consume the Viking longboat are reflected by the golden talisman which will accompany the fallen chieftain to Valhalla.

In this piece I have created an intriguing artefact with its own story. The burnished helmet with its jewelled, lifelike eyes, engages us whilst beneath it is an enamelled lozenge. Upon it is written the Runic word 'SODIR' which means South. Can it be a map where the strange, stylized creature represents a landmass surrounded by ocean...?
