Supernova

An imaginative portrait of a distant galaxy revealing an exploded massive star that erupted approximately 1,700 years ago.

Supernova is a blend of exposures taken in March 2020 of ferromagnetic fluid painted by hand. Animation was composited from separate exposures to show velocity. The blue ribbons of the supernova explosion are moving toward Earth, whereas the red ones are moving away.
