After driving through cloud along the high road following the spine of Muaupoko / Otago Peninsula I dropped down to a spot where I found a fantastic view of Hereweka / Harbour Cone (a remnant of the extinct volcanic geology of this area) which parted the cloud flowing from the south.
I enjoyed observing that for some time before making a few photographs. On reviewing them afterwards, a particularly contrasty image resonated with some of the fleeting thoughts I had had there about the contrasts this land has seen, from rich native bush to denuded farmland and what it might see in the future.
This study was created by processing the photograph with creative coding tools – specifically vpype flow imager – to produce the linework. It was plotted by a vintage Houston Instrument DMP-161 plotter using a Rotring technical pen and custom mixed De Atramentis Document ink on A2 Hahnemühle Stella Matt 250gsm fine art paper.
