This is a photograph made with a microscope, showing approximately 1.8 mm of the natural world. The substance photographed is Ascorbic acid, otherwise known as Vitamin C, disolved into half water half ethanol to speed up the drying process.
The microscope slide was sandwiched between two polarizer filters introduce the colors to the otherwise clear crystals that form from the solution. The larger mostly grey crystals form islands and with little waterfalls forming the blue pools. All completely natural, in the microscopic world.
