SPINAL is a piece I originally created during the summer of 2021. It was born not unlike any of my other creations. After a long day at work and getting the kids tucked in for the night, I sat down at my desk, put on the headphones, and got to work. If I recall correctly, there was a mix of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam streaming from the playlist that night. And, as usually happens, a couple of hours later, the piece was complete. I'm honestly not sure what happens during that time, I just let the music lead the way and eventually push the shapes and colors into a form that speaks to me. There's something about the symmetry and the mix of hard and soft lines in this one that give it a great mood I think.
For this updated version of SPINAL, I chose to bring the artwork to life on Async and reveal the power of adding and removing the various layers to create 24 unique versions of the artwork that update every hour of the day. Each has its own minimalist vibe while simultaneously tying itself back to the original creation.
