This was a shot from our hike to the crater of Kawah Ijen in Indonesia last 2019. The crater lake rim was lined with several dead trees. They were beautiful. The burnt wood skeletons are all twisted and curled, looking like performing an intricate dance to the gods.
The moment I saw this particular tree, a title came to my mind immediately... 'Space In-between.' I figure this would be a nice foreground to frame the Milkyway in the middle. This piece is one of those visions realized precisely how I wanted it to be.
This piece won international awards a year later, including Gold in Moscow International Foto Awards 2020, Silver in Budapest International Foto Awards 2020, Bronze in World Photographic Cup 2021.
I was also given the Ani ng Dangal Award (Harvest of Honors). It is given to a natural-born Filipino artist or group that has reaped top honors in international events.
