The Soviet mosaic is a monumental work of art in the USSR. Soviet modernist buildings, both externally and internally, are often decorated with mosaics - giving the building grandeur and monumentality.
Mosaics was consonant with the architecture of modernism, it allowed to escape from the impersonality and drabness, almost inevitable in the conditions of strict typification of architecture in the USSR. Angarsk mosaics are one of the best in Russia.
Angarsk mosaics were made in 1970 and have 17 large panels with subjects devoted to the Great Patriotic War, culture and Soviet workers. This collection includes 10 of the city's best mosaics. I took photos of the mosaics in 2021 when I went to Lake Baikal. The Angarsk mosaics are unique monumental art from the Soviet period.
