A self portrait on Fujifilm Instax Square taken in the spring of 2020. I was starting to lose it at the beginning of the pandemic and needed to let off some steam.
I woke up one morning with SOS by ABBA stuck in my head - "so when you're near me darling can't you hear me SOS!?" I had been dancing around to this song for a few hours. I ran upstairs and cut the foot off of a stocking and pulled it over my head, smearing my makeup. I looked ridiculous, but not ridiculous enough, so I applied a bunch more makeup on over it.
My appearance reflected how I was feeling. This was a turning point for me because I realized my work was better when I stopped trying to be pretty and allowed myself to be unhinged.
