So Much Have Fun
A few years ago, I discovered Park Hye Jin — a Korean musician who could reasonably be called the progenitor of K-House, a genre she seems to have conjured almost entirely on her own terms. Nothing I had heard before sounded quite like it.
When I began digging into her story, I was struck by the quiet ferocity of her conviction. Misunderstood in her home country, navigating the particular exhaustion of misogyny in a deeply conservative music scene, she simply left — and has been leaving ever since, drifting between cities across the world, without a fixed home, without a label telling her what to do. She composes, produces, writes, sings. All of it, herself.
Her music is intensely personal and carries a specific kind of darkness — not heavy-handed, but persistent, like a low light in a room you can't quite place. It reaches somewhere in me that most music doesn't.
An extraordinary woman.
