In 2016, I collaborated with Ballet Tucson to create a new ballet based on the traditions of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of The Dead). During the 11-month collaboration, I created over 300 digital renderings covering everything from scrim projections to costumes. Only about 10% of the renderings were eventually used in the production, but my series of Skull Dancers did make the cut. Since then, I have revisited the images many times with the thought of somehow doing more with them, but never had a clear view of just how I might do so. But eventually, while playing around with the images I started to gradually re-imagine them, and now see them as a rich starting point for some interesting new cryptoart works. This is the first result of a continuing process that will likely see the concept morph into new works that will evolve according to their own schedule, eventually becoming something very different from their roots.
