Single-slit diffraction (animated GIF)

Solution of the wave equation in 2D in the one-slit geometry. The wave enters the system via a single slit and then goes in all directions according the laws of diffraction. Most of the energy goes nearly straight, as can be seen, although there are other diffraction maxima.
