Can the complexity of emotion, vulnerability, and resistance within a relationship be transmitted through hands alone?
This was the question that guided this project. As human beings, we often struggle to verbalize just how deeply we value those closest to us. "She" a piece derived from the series "Mother and Daughter" emerges as an answer to this inquiry, stripping down to the raw contrast of black and white photography the expressiveness and power of an indissoluble bond.
This photograph stands as a visual testament to love, unity, and my mother’s absolute fortitude. She has spent her life battling severe, chronic rheumatoid arthritis a progressive condition that claims her physical mobility day by day, but never her spirit. Her reality is not a limitation of her will, but rather the space from which she has taught me to fight tirelessly for my own dreams. Her lived experience and her body are not synonyms for defeat, but the ultimate source of an infinite, driving strength.
Through our intertwined hands captured in close up, I pay tribute to her existence while simultaneously offering a critique of a utilitarian society. In a world that often marginalizes and renders invisible our elders and disabled individuals once they no longer fit into the machinery of mass production treating them like rusted objects left to be forgotten this artwork reclaims their intrinsic value. "She" reminds us that behind every physical limitation resides a wise soul, a legacy of resistance, and a monumental dignity from which the contemporary world still has everything to learn.
*Note on provenance: "She" is an unreleased, original 7th photograph from the series "Mother and Daughter" (Madre e hija), which features 6 previously minted pieces on Objkt. This is the first time this artwork is being exhibited and minted.
