A sárdula or shardula, in Hindu mythology, is a fantastic hybrid animal with the body of a feline, mainly a lion, which can also have the head of a feline or a bird (for example, a parrot). It is equivalent to a kind of mythological griffin .
It appears highly represented on the walls of the Khajuraho temples of the Chandela dynasty, where it alternates sculpturally with gods and goddesses, lovers, warriors, ascetics, celestial nymphs or different motifs of climbing plants and geometric motifs.
