Cool outflow in my face. Last light fading on the horizon. Alone with nothing but the low rumble of thunder and the click of my camera shutter. For years I tried to capture lightning over this old church in Taiban, a historic Eastern New Mexico building. On August 23, 2019 it finally happened.
I tracked a storm to this location, arrived at the church, and knew there wasn’t much time. Lit by the headlights of my truck, I quickly set my camera up. Immediately bolts started falling around me! As my camera fired catching bolt after bolt, I knew I captured what no one else had successfully done at this forgotten sanctuary.
