This is a study of composition and contrast of a torii gate which is commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto temple; it marks the transition between the mundane and the sacred. This iconic torii gate in Lake Biwa, Japan stands before the Shirahige Shrine, a 2000 year old shrine said to bring a variety of fortunes, such as longevity, marriage, and achievements.
