PrinceWassily blends comic, pop and street art, creating dynamic imagery with the punk energy of his second passion—music. The flamboyant colors he uses are reminiscent of those in flashy advertising campaigns, ironically positioning his work as a product of the very consumerist contemporary culture that they critique. Populated with his own crew of characters and heroes, his paintings can be seen as visual fables of the absurd times we live in. RIOT, inspired by the series of protests happening all over the world today, draws on the imagery of our collective subconscious and of our failures, depicting stories of drugs, money, and repression. While he approaches these dominant themes of 21st-century life with humor and lightness, the work is in fact a scathing criticism of the disparities, waste, and extremism ravaging our world today and leading to riots.
