The concept of "recursion" was one I discovered while earning my computer science degree. Even the dictionary definition is recursive: "the repeated application of a recursive procedure or definition." Basically it's a function that calls itself to perform some logic until it (hopefully) gets to a point where it unwinds itself and comes up with an answer. This scene endeavors to illustrate that concept.
This render is part of a series of abstract works I created using a funky little program called "Structure Synth" in the '10s. I hated polygon modeling in Lightwave so much that I used just about any other program I could to create my meshes.
Structure Synth uses procedural tools and primitives to create any number of amazing geometric structures. Once I created the model I then used Lightwave3D to texture, light and render them as interesting wallpapers.
