Rat King

It can refer to a natural phenomenon in which the tails of several rats become entangled, forming a legendary creature, and also to a monstrous infected by the cordyceps fungus in the video game The Last of Us. The actual phenomenon, although debated, can result in the death of the animals, but the game's version is a terrifying mass of multiple infected joined by the fungus and represents one of the most dangerous creatures in the game.

Although the legend is ancient, some researchers believe that many historical "rat kings" are actually hoaxes created by humans who tied the tails of dead rats together, while others maintain that the phenomenon is real and is due to the cramped conditions in which the rats live.
