portrait of a stereotype. or of an archetype?
a queer, the queer in all of us asking to be welcomed as we are, even when parts of our being do not fit straight the expectations we feel society has on us. the queer asking to be seen not as a figure or a character, but as a person, a human being being human, first of all. the verses start by addressing the crowd with a plural you, but as we accept the call for discretion and we get closer, a unique you is addressed and connection on a deeper human level is possible. the last verse means that the tears we could not let flow are now fixed in our eyes and, under pressure, became diamonds. the parts of us that are unique, and challenge society with their uniqueness, are the most precious.
