One thing that deeply interests me is the portrayal of deformity through the lens of beauty. What would happen if technology allowed "deformed" bodies—by the standards of a biology rooted in evolutionary principles—to exist with a high quality of life? If prosthetics became so overdeveloped that nano- and macro-prostheses could enable any possible body to live? An infinity of variables.
I started fantasizing about body modification taken to the aesthetics of the organic—generating limbs, openings, and deformities as statements of beauty in a body that feels no pain, or in which mutation happens and undoes itself at near-light speed, thus becoming performance.
In a world where beauty standards were based on the most morbid amorphousness, mimicking genetics, the privileged ones would be those born "deformed"—biological mutations. Perhaps, like with pedigrees, humanity would eventually mix with mutants until it became an entirely deformed species.
