Please Stand By utilizes the iconic SMPTE color bars template and changes the palette to bring into question viewers perceptions surrounding "standards of color." An offshoot of my original series, I Got Something To Say, adds an additional more literal message. Please Stand By, This is Just The Beginning. As people turn out en masse to protest the Supreme Court’s leak that they will be overturning Roe v Wade, many fear that as bad as the decision is, the precedent it may set will be even worse, paving the way for the reversal of other important laws. Governor Greg Abbot of Texas said this past Thursday “he would seek to overturn a 1982 court decision that obligated public schools to educate all children, including undocumented immigrants,” essentially making it impossible for the children of illegal immigrants from receiving any type of education. The consequences of this decision could ripple through the community for generations, not only expanding the ever growing income and education gap between minorities and the white upper / middle class, but also in turn destroying neighborhoods where these communities live. This law has stood in place since 1982 and is not the only one on the radar as a result of the Roe v Wade reversal. Any court decision revolving around the “right to privacy” could conceivably be on the table, including banning interracial marriages, persecution of homosexuals for sodomy, the banning of same sex marriages. The list is very long.
