tz1and 0.6 includes very nice performance upgrades:
Sharing the load across Web Workers to take some of the I/O (downloading, indexeddb reads/writes) off the main thread. Smooth.
Large textures were a problem before in tz1and, since the resizing was happening on the main thread and blocking the rendering. By preprocessing the models off the main thread, we not only get to resize the textures before sending them to the GPU, but also optimise meshes, to reduce their size and make them more efficient on the GPU side. With these changes, load times are drastically reduced, the world loads faster and it performs better.
The advantage of doing this on the client side is that you can change the texture quality settings and it doesn't need to be downloaded again.
The initial loading of the map was improved, it should display almost instantly now. It sure was slow before.
There were also a number of other optimisations applied, which should, especially on the low-end (slower CPUs), drastically improve the rendering performance and loading speed.
