Peacocks fill the beach. The sand is white and the water looks demented. There are human bodies openly rotting at the crest. Some of the bigger peacocks are eating the flesh off of the skeletons in silent frenzy while the less dominant peacocks drag the carcasses the big ones are finished with around the sand like toys. Lots of the other peacocks are fucking, if I understand what peacocks fucking looks like. We watch from behind the death fence, my Dad and I. I’ve brought my coloring book with me and I find the page that looks like today and hold it up and wait for the colors to coming flooding in between the lines. My hands smell like shit. When the sun goes down we walk home in the rock-solid dark.
