In the 1980s, string theory was proposed to be the sought-for unified theory that unifies all forces and matter. The strings are unable to be detected with current scientific methods. It's theorized that there are mini dimensions that are undetectable to us, and the strings are just as small so that they can vibrate through these dimensions connecting all forces and matter.
In this artwork, an individual discovers how to see and interact with these strings. He is able to navigate the strings as if they are a path on the ground. While traversing the paths through dimensions, he saw and experienced such otherwordly sensations and emotions. Experiences that are so alien to one's sense of reality that they can not be explained justly.
Tears run down his face as he is overcome by such never-before-seen beauty and by the realization that he is lost with no way back to his home dimension. What first felt like a dream quickly became a nightmare. He is constantly traversing the dimensional paths, running into the other versions of himself. However, his other selves aren't the same as him - they feel as though they are imposters, dangerous ones at that. His other selves feel the same way toward him.
Is he doomed to wander the paths in fear for eternity? Will he eventually find a way out? The answer is unknown.
