About Ovulation Observation A participatory performance between artist and collector.
For one month, I will track my ovulation using an iphone application designed for couples. The collector will assume the role of my partner. I will track my period, ovulation, fertility windows, moods, symptoms, sexual activity. Throughout the 28 day period, my partner (aka the collector) will receive notifications about my ovulation and moods.
As I write this I sit in New York City. Did you know the price of eggs has risen 94% in the last year here? The cost to create a fertilized embryo here averages $12,000 to $25,000 per cycle. And then embryo storage costs $1000 a year after that. I wonder if the fertility apps sell my data to the IVF companies here. My targeted ads are different now… “did you know polyester pants make you infertile? Track your fertility here.”
How much are eggs in Berlin? How much is life in Germany? Last time I was in Berlin it was Gallery Week 2023. I remember I stood outside my exhibition and smoked cigarettes as a pro-life March proceeded down the street. I was so angry with them.
I am not in Berlin now, eggs are too expensive.
I wonder what is more valuable, the egg or the woman. The fertilized or the fertilizer. The potential or the person.
The Contractual Collection Obligations Duration: 28 days, beginning at the time of acquisition. Performance: For 28 days, OONA will track and log her ovulation symptoms. Upon acquisition, the collector assumes the role of OONA’s partner. Collectors will be able to follow her cycle and receive daily notifications via the CyclesApp. Final Art Object: At the conclusion of the cycle, a video document of the performance will be minted to the collector’s wallet.
About the Application Cycles.App is available on iOS only. Designed for couples, it offers partner sharing, allowing both users to view cycle data, symptoms, and fertility windows. Notifications and reminders can be customized for both parties. OONA has no affiliation with the app.
