Draped over the baby Kitimetse, Elke is nestled between the baby's ears and her rough gray skin covered with coarse scanty hairs. As she grows, Kitimetse's ears will cover her shoulder. Standing next to Kitimetse is the bull elephant Abu, with ears about 2m x 1.5m. The elephant's ears are flapped to create air currents to help reduce body heat.
