Ancient Transhumanism Series
Created by Fivos Doganis (@fdoganis), after visiting an Olmec art exhibition at Musée du Quai Branly (Paris, France), in September 2021, and discovering the famous Mujer Escarificada (Tamtoc, 200 AD).
This beautiful and mysterious Olmec sculpture, representing a scarified woman, was deliberately broken into pieces and thrown into the water as part of a fertility ritual. The statue was sacrificed instead of a human being. Its head and limbs have never been found.
Two thousand years later, by scanning the sculpture in 3D and processing the resulting point cloud, the statue has been revived, in a pose reminding Botticelli's Venus emerging from the sea.
