Reflecting on historical painting (often a creative spring for me), I began thinking about the Odelesque motif. Most of my early tests I found too languid, stereotypical, pin-uppy, male-gazey; others went too far askew from the motif in reaction. This one has dynamic contrasting balances: classical | contemporary, vulnerability | agency, formal | illustrative, with an integration of numerous ideas from past projects/practice with the historical Odelesque theme.
