Generally, moths, in the sense of Heterocera, and a few species of black butterflies, are considered unlucky because they supposedly attract evils such as death or other dark aspects in daily life. However, on some Pacific islands, as well as in the southeastern United States, they are believed to be a messenger of economic wealth.
