Mortal Kombat burst onto the arcade scene in 1992, revolutionizing fighting games with its gritty realism, and, of course, its iconic fatalities. What started as a bold competitor to more cartoonish fighters quickly evolved into a cultural icon, spanning generations, consoles, and crossing into film and television. Its brutal gameplay made it timeless, and over the decades, it’s become a symbol of nostalgia, rebellion, and innovation in gaming.
This pixel gif I created is a nod to that raw, early '90s energy. Capturing the spirit of classic Mortal Kombat while adding a personal twist. Every frame is a small tribute to the legacy of the game: the intensity, the rivalry, and the pure fun of mastering combos with friends.
This piece reflects both my admiration for mortal kombat history and my own journey as an artist influenced by that era.
Back in school, all I could think about was getting home to play Mortal Kombat. it was always the first thing I’d run to.
