Monkey Mythologies

Digital artwork/ I have had a huge fascination with monkeys for many years and alongside birds, they are probably the most frequently featured animal in my works. For me they represent playfulness, independence and also a cheekiness necessary to go beyond the rigid norms or rules. They are complex creatures with many dimensions and with powerful yet loveable characters. This work is part of the Hybrid Mythology series that has been ongoing for several years now, where elements from different legends, myths and stories are combined and intertwined, or where I find unifying characteristics. This piece begun as an analog doodle as I was reading legends about monkeys from around the world and slowly it developed into the digital expression that it has, and from there into a collection. So more of his cousins are on their way...but this being a monkey business...who knows when and where
