The rings were created by Moldur, a mighty research mage over the course of his probably more than one lifetime. He left behind a treatise that contains records of his research, encrypted recipes for potions, spells he created, and many other things he worked on. The treatise was found under very strange circumstances, part of the text was deciphered, it contained a list of all the rings he created, with sketches and descriptions. Some of the rings were known previously, though no one knew their true origin, and the whereabouts of most are now unknown.
