In the project ‘Media Memory Collection’, I collected donations of old homemade films from families in the countryside of São Paulo - the region where I was born. During an art residency at LIFT (Toronto), I digitized about 30 hours of this material, including some films in extremely bad condition. Those were scanned frame by frame in high resolution, and the frames were re-animated to become videos or recombined in new photos. Now the project goes full circle with the creation of these NFT.
This collection I am making available has no filter, no effects - just the effects of the film’s decay, frozen at the moment of scanning. At times we can barely recognize the original image, which leaves a fertile space for fabulating new possible stories and projecting our own fiction.
The project as a whole offers a reflection about time – condensing and uniting elements such as memory, the moment and context of the recording, the documentation of time passage in the lives of the subjects and the impression of time over the media itself.
