Gunung Tilu Nature Reserve is a conservation forest area covering approximately ±8,000 hectares, forming part of the total 147,716 hectares of protected forest in West Java. The reserve has been under legal protection since the Dutch colonial era, established alongside the expansion of tea plantations in the Dewata region.
This area is recorded as a natural habitat of the Javan gibbon (Hylobates moloch), an endemic and protected primate species native to Java. The species was reported to have disappeared around 1990.
