This photograph was taken just after midnight on a summer night in Arctic Norway. I’m from Hawaii, but I met my partner in northern Norway. Spending time there became a big part of my life. However, for the past two years my partner and I have largely been separated by border closures. I won’t be able to return to him in Norway at all this year because of the pandemic. This photo evokes complex emotions for me - love, adventure, hope, and now sadness as well. For many of us, the pandemic demanded distance from loved ones and places. My memories of Norway have become bittersweet. A moment in time under both moon and sun.
