Metaphoric Architecture is an architectural movement that developed in Europe during the mid-20th century. It is considered by some to be merely an aspect of postmodernism whilst others consider it to be a school in its own right and a later development of expressionist architecture. Metaphoric Architecture uses architecture to convey a message by structural elements. It is characterized by combining ideas and concepts from outside the architecture field to expand the architectural discipline. The completed building is less important in metaphorical architecture than the idea that drove it.
