The Mars rover Curiosity landed in the Mars Gale Crater on 2012-08-06 (05:17:57 UTC). The rover is still in operation today, and has spent >3,344 Sols (Mars days) on the planet, and has transmitted >868,768 images.
Almost exactly two years after landing, to the day, on 2014-08-05 (Earth day) or Sol 710 (Mars day) at T13:25:07, the mast camera of the rover captured an image that had people amazed.
Did the rover photograph a martian creature, hidden in the rocky landscape? Or is this simply explained by the psychological phenomenon 'pareidolia', where the mind is stimulated to see things that do not exist?
