I create lots of different types of artwork but I am fairly well-known for my 3D landscape work. I try to make them as photorealistic as possible and that has sometimes led to confusion. My work has often been shared alongside actual landscape photos, leading to some embarrassing situations for art directors over the years.
My landscape work is inspired by the Hudson River School and by hours watching "The Joy of Painting" as a youth. Everyone thinks Bob Ross is camp, but his ruminations on the creative process left a big impression on me. I knew my hands weren't steady enough for paint brushes but when I discovered 3D rendering I felt liberated.
I created this piece after watching the new Bob Ross documentary on Netflix. It brought back the wonder I felt watching Bob create his works and I wanted to explore that for myself.
I did not paint or photograph this piece. The mountains were modeled using Gaea, the plants were modeled in Plant Factory and all rendered in VUE.
