Looking Deeper

This piece is based on a photographic chemigram, an image created using a camera-less approach to recording marks on photographic paper. My work is centered in a sense of wonder and curiosity, and takes its cues from forces of nature - in this case, life at a cellular level. The cellular metaphor encourages me to think of hidden mysteries that can only be seen and appreciated by looking deeper, past the surface, into the depths of a thing. Careful attention and thoughtful consideration so often seems a discarded thing of the past, and I find it impoverishing. In my images, I hope to speak to the heart, reminding us all to stop and see, slow down and appreciate. I hope to capture an ephemeral wisp of the intangible and share it, as two children might press their heads together to gaze in awe at something captured in a cupped hand.
