Limits of a simulation

I talked with a friend recently about the limits of Science to explain and control the universe, and he argued that at some point our technology might not be able to advance due to the constraints of the universe itself. I joked that maybe one day we'd do an experiment and get back, not information to indicate it failed or succeded, but "ERROR XYZ: Simulation Max Resolution reached" to indicate we'd hit the maximal resolution our simulation could show us, and were about to proceed into whatever source code lies beyond. Let's just hope no-one accidentally formats the Hard Drive, shall we ?
