This is the black sea-brute bulling through wave-
wrack,
Ancient as ocean’s shifting hills, who in sea-toils
Travelling, who furrowing the salt acres
Heavily, his wake hoary behind him,
Shoulders spouting, the fist of his forehead
Over wastes gray-green crashing, among horses
unbroken
From bellowing fields, past bone-wreck of vessels,
Tide-ruin, wash of lost bodies bobbing
No longer sought for, and islands of ice gleaming
Who ravening the rank flood, wave-marshalling,
Overmastering the dark sea-marches, finds home
And harvest.
----- from Leviathan by W.S.Merwin
Leviathan is a sea-monster but the word is also used to describe something large and powerful ... caught between the billowing cloud and the angry sea , sometimes we are nothing but the speck of that boat - tossed and turned , flung and battered with no direction , no control of where we are going - our wishes and desires have no meaning , our dreams have no paths...decisions that are made far above us control our destinies .. unfair yes but that is what life is ! I hope that the little boat survives ..
