Krishna is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The painting represents the childhood of the god, where he was famous for being a playful kid, who loved eating yoghurt very much. He would always go to homes of neighbours and secretly eat it. To save the makhan (yoghurt) from him, the neighbours would hang it on roof really high so that he couldn't reach. But the kid with his exceptional power would reach the matkas anyway. In hindu culture this has now become a game called dahi handi played on festival popularly known as janmashtami. In the festival a matka full of yoghurt is hanged at a good height and people would form human pyramid to reach and break it.
