Jacques Derrida uses khôra to name a radical otherness that "gives place" for being. Khôra is the place where everything passes but in which nothing remains. The monolith exists in the center of the frame and its powers lift the space. It's a character that holds the space together and uplifts the whole world around it. The algorithmically generated terrain is here to represent the liminality of a space. Where is this place ? Does it have an essence ? It is a space without being a space. It is the other. The Monolith is the hero of this sensible realm.
A generated world, which is perceptible by sight and all the senses, by the name of earth or air or fire or water, or any aggregates or constituents there of: rather, if we describe her as a Kind invisible and unshaped, all-receptive, and in some most perplexing and most baffling way partaking of the intelligible, we shall describe her truly. — Plato, Timaeus, 51a
