As the sun prepared its descent, closing out another day on the road in Japan, a hulking mass of crumbling concrete and steel slumped onto the horizon. What were these monsters, these giants? What purpose had they served? Why had they been abandoned, like the myths of our ancestors to rot and fade from memory?
