I always loved the series of caricatures that were displayed in my wife's parents' Georgian Home in Cambridgeshire. Being Canadian, they struck me as quintessentially 'English'. I later discovered that they were, in fact, drawings of some prominent folk from Edinburgh, Scotland. The drawings were pages from the book 'Modern Athenians, a series of original portraits of memorable citizens of Edinburgh', by Benjamin William Crombie (1803-1847), Draughtsman, engraver and caricaturist. It was first published in 1882.

These modern reimaginings were done digitally, from beginning to end, using Procreate. The digital creation is an Adobe Photoshop file (.psd). This means you can control how you would like to display the image by using a compatible program which supports the hiding and showing of layers. Want to hide the face? Go for it. No white highlights? Fine. Dump my signature? Sure.
