The vegetable people are becoming very peculiar. They refuse to maintain their traditional garb. Their skins are not dark and leathery, but bright green and translucent, as though greased to resemble fabric. I believe they intend to shed their skins and reshape themselves to be like the broomphant, of which they are apparently descended. They refuse to eat most foods, but only the vegetable. Everything else is off limits for them. I've seen one of them drinking water out of a spring with a shovel, but I don't think it's safe for them to drink anything but that which comes from their own roots, as I suspect it has a direct effect on them. Some of the vegetable people have mentalternity or emotional cohesion. They appear to have little or no difficulty changing the shape of their minds; they may move in and out of mentalternity, or alternatively one may exist entirely within mentalternity. This would, of course, have a great effect on their mentalternity when the mentalternity was disrupted in any way. It might even prove fatal for some people if they let it go too far, but to my knowledge there are no signs that the broomphant has mentalternity. I am still unsure as to the longevity of broomphant mentalternity; perhaps because of the instability of their mentalternity the broomphant do not appear to have a long life. Most broomphant will not move out of their normal homes. They cannot tolerate the cooler temperatures of urban areas, or the more diverse forms of food. They cannot breathe outdoors; they must stay indoors unless exposed to a breath of open air. It has been quite a long time since I last saw any broomphant. Whenever I try to trace the path that the broomphant leave in their wake, I find the world has changed so that I cannot find anything significant, nor know if any broomphant have passed through.
