Into the Blur

I photographed this work in 2023 at one of my favorite locations. The day was layered with heavy clouds, moving between light and dark. I didn’t use any extra equipment, no artificial lights, just the natural light of the sky. I styled the model simply, and I let the walls and the air shape what was in front of me. Nothing was added.

But as I stood there, I felt myself step into the moment I was capturing. It wasn’t only about the figure in front of me. It was about the weight of the air, the way the clouds pressed down, the way the room seemed to hold more than it showed. In that space, I understood something I think many people have felt. The wish to soften, to turn down the volume of presence, to let yourself blur into your surroundings without fully leaving.

Maybe that’s why it felt close to me. Because at that time, I didn’t want to vanish, not fully. I just wanted to soften, to hide for a while, to let the world blur around me. I wanted to see what it might mean to not stand so sharply in the frame of things.

This photograph became a mirror: the body pressed into shadow, edges loosening, almost air. Not gone, but waiting. Not absent, but hidden, hoping someone might notice, hoping someone might find me there, inside the blur.
