In My Blue Bubble

Patriarchy is a social system in which men hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege, and control of property. In this system, men are often socialized to conform to a narrow and rigid gender role that emphasizes the importance of being tough, strong, and emotionless. One way in which patriarchy can hurt men is by promoting the idea of the "blue bubble," or the idea that men should suppress their emotions and avoid vulnerability. This can lead to men feeling pressure to conform to a masculine ideal that is emotionally constricting and unhealthy. It can also make it difficult for men to form close relationships and connect with others in a meaningful way, as they may feel that they cannot express their true feelings or be themselves. This suppression of emotions can also have negative impacts on men's mental health. Research has shown that men are more likely to experience mental health issues such as depression and anxiety when they are unable to express their emotions and seek support. In addition, men may be more likely to engage in unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse, in an attempt to numb their emotions or avoid dealing with them. Overall, patriarchy and the expectations it places on men can have harmful consequences for both men and society as a whole. It is important for men to feel comfortable expressing their emotions and seeking support when needed, and for society to recognize and value the full range of human emotions and experiences, regardless of gender.
