This is the first in a series of works I am producing that aims to reinterpret symbols originating from West African cultures from a Metamodern perspective. These pieces are a cross between self portrait and history painting, and each tells a story about my connection with the ancestors and the rich cultural heritage they have endowed me with. These works range from sunny gold to rich earth tones since "Gold is just a shade of Brown".
"Immanent" is a work of art that is about finding oneself distributed across space and time, whether that be in the sense of family, ancestry, personality or something else is up to the viewer.
For the artist, this work is meant to express understanding of the idea that we are a community-even our individual selves relate to the world around, before and after us in some communal sense. It doesn't matter whether we are on the blockchain, the internet, on earth or in outer space-we are connected to the reality that surrounds and emanates from within us.
