By the time I was born
my grandfather was a quiet man
with thick, dark rimmed glasses.
Once in a while he told me things I can’t remember
but I like those memories.
I wish I could remember the details
buried under layer upon layer.
I remember photographs that don’t exist. Hazy images from my childhood when things happened. They would have been great photos had they been taken and evidence of whatever I might remember or maybe imagined, I’m not sure. There’s more than a handful that I revisit often.
Somewhere in between my memory and all the forgotten things so obscured there’s probably everything I’ve ever been, ever done, ever wished to be, ever seen all wound up together forwards and backwards echoing through the layers of whoever I’ve become.
And somewhere in my present are the clues of whoever my grandfather was.

My fourth drawing in a series where I explore the space on either side of a meridian as I balance my intention to draw each line with my reaction to the previous. Unintended themes emerge as part of the process
Drawn within a 5” x 5” space on approximately 9" x 9" paper using Platinum Carbon Black ink, scanned and adjusted in Procreate
